After six weeks in Austin, it was time to step away from social media for a while, go off on an adventure, and reconnect with some of my passions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t get me wrong, I loved my time in Austin. I made such great friends, experienced so much nightlife and culture, and developed meaningful and lasting relationships. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I never really found my footing there and always felt like I was playing catch-up. There’s so many things to do and see and experience in life, and trying to take it all in at once can be a bit much. Overwhelming, actually.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For me, exploring the world is a dream come true. I wouldn’t change a thing about my first six months on the road. But traveling full time while running a law firm, a marketing agency, an education company, and a non-profit while trying to make new friends, maintain a social life, exercise regularly, build new routines, buy groceries, update social media, end the stigma over mental illness, and try to maintain my own mental health in the process is hard.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it gets harder when you hit setbacks and roadblocks along the way such as getting robbed, having your identity stolen, finding a new place to live, work, and workout every few weeks, booking flights, buying bikes, and making time for everyone and everything you care about while also making time for yourself. It’s hard. Really f’ing hard.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes you just have to step away and catch your breath. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, that’s what I did. I rented a jeep and drove across the desert.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Along the way I hiked a national park, found a ghost town, lost myself in a few prickly pear margaritas, filmed a documentary, read a few books, went to concerts alone, and explored the mysteries of the multiverse. It was a much needed break.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I missed you guys, and I hope you missed me too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope that you know that it’s okay to step away and catch your breath too. Life is hard and we could all use a break sometimes. It’s okay for you to take a break too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Even if your break means getting lost in the desert for a month 🏜
