March of the Penguins 🐧

This story is about penguins in the month of March. Get it? 🙃 A few weeks ago, I journeyed to the “End of the World” to a tiny town called Ushuaia located on the southernmost tip of South America.

This charming port town perched on a steeped hill bordering the Beagle Channel is commonly known as the Gateway to Antarctica. But it’s also a stone’s throw away from a special place called Isla Yécapasela - a remote island inhabited entirely by penguins. And since a journey to Antarctica wasn’t in the cards this time around, a March with the Penguins certainly was 😎

Because the island is heavily protected, only a small number of visitors are allowed each day. So, naturally, I awoke before sunrise and marched my ass out to the docks to make sure I was one of the lucky few - and I’m so glad I did.

Upon reaching the island, thousands of charming little penguins greet you at the shore (fun fact: penguins scream to mark their territory) 👀 From there, I was free to roam the island keeping a safe distance from these adorable wobbly creatures. I watched them swim, nest, and march in packs along the pristine coastline.

And then, in what seemed like just a moment even though hours has passed, it was time to bid my new best friends farewell. Time marches on, and so do these adorable little penguins. But these memories will remain.

Until next time, my friends ✌️
