On a bright sunny day in early October, I wished my family and friends in the US goodbye for my first time living abroad.
I had always dreamed of living in Mexico. I envisioned it as a land full of adventure with beautiful landscapes, incredible food, and tacos and tequila in abundance.
I couldn’t wait to step outside my comfort zone, navigate my way around a new language, and encounter a new life journey.
And what a journey it was. I’ve lived in six different states, visited over sixteen different cities, and had some truly magical adventures.
I watched the sunset over the pacific, dune buggied through the desert, celebrated the day of the dead, floated through ancient canals, and swam in underground cenotes.
And along the way, I met some amazing people who opened their lives and their hearts to make me feel welcome and ushered me along on my journey through a foreign country.
I‘m so very grateful to have seen and experienced so many good things in Mexico, but all good things must come to an end.
So, as my plane takes off across the Atlantic and back to the US, it’s time for me to say “So long, Mexico.”
Yo put way too much sauce and cheese on everything, but your country is beautiful, your people are friendly, and you taught me so much about how to travel the world alone.
While I wish things were easier at times and that I could drink water out of a sink, I’ll never forget my first time living abroad and the lessons in patience and perseverance you tried to reach me along the way.
So, for now, it’s back to the US for to see my friends and family for the holidays, and to decide my next destination around the world.
Adios, Amigos! Until we meet again ✨
