My beautiful mother passed away this week after a long battle with covid and pneumonia. Needless to say, we are devastated. But for now, I just want to talk about my mom.
Mom was the most kind, patient, caring, creative, loving, supportive, and selfless person I ever knew. This isn’t to say that she didn’t tease me every chance she could (because she did) or approve of my vagabond life (because she didn’t), but she loved me just the same.
Mom spent her entire life giving to others. She gave me and my brother a wonderful life, my father a lifetime of cherished memories, and touched countless others along the way. She taught me the value of giving back and to always do the right thing.
Mom lit up every room. She had the biggest heart, the kindest smile, and always made everyone feel welcome. Simply put, the world was better because she was in it.
Mom was my guiding light. She taught me to never give up. No matter the obstacles, she would always say “you’ll figure it out, son. You always do.” She is the inspiration of my creativity, my passion for writing, and my motivation for pursuing my dreams.
And she was my rock. She insisted I call her every day (even for a minute), check in after every flight (even though i’m forty), and ended every call by saying “I love you.”
Mom was always there for me. She answered every call. No matter where in the world I was or how scared I felt, I was never alone. And she was so proud of everything I did. I don’t know what I’ll do with out her.
Her final words to me came after her passing in the birthday card she had left for me.
Her wish for me was to be safe and happy, that my life unfolds in wonderful ways, and to know that I was loved and always will be. She then wrote “How did you get so old, when your mom stayed so young?!” 🙃
Mom, I will carry your love with me across the ends of the earth. Your guiding light will always keep me safe. I will live a happy and wonderful life because you gave me the most precious gift of being your son. I will love you forever.
And in my heart, you’ll always be forever young.
Until we meet again ❤️
