Coming Out of Retirement 🏋️♂️🛞
Several years ago I drank the Crossfit Kool-aid. I trained five days a week, ate a regimented diet, and consistently competed in the Crossfit Open.
I spent my spare time flipping spare tires, running around the gym without my shirt on, and using silly words like Wod, Emom, and Amrap.
Crossfit was incredibly challenging, but being in my early 30s, living in one place, and a having a consistent schedule made it manageable.
Now, in my early 40s, I find myself living in a new place every week, without consistent routines, yet still committed to a healthy lifestyle. And I’ve learned an incredibly valuable lesson:
Staying in shape is hard. Staying in shape while traveling full time is significantly harder 😅
Each time I pull into a new place, my first order of business is to find a gym that will sell me a day, week, or month membership - spending 4-5x what a normal person spends on a gym.
Eating a regimented diet on the road is tough, so I travel with a mini air fryer, buy groceries 3 days at a time, and try my hardest not to stop at every In-N-Out burger I see along the way.
And it takes significantly longer to recover from an injury or a late night out than it did in my 30s.
So, with all this said, will I be coming out of retirement to bring home the gold at the Crossfit games? Nope. Those days are behind me.
But I have no intention of slowing down and still plan to run around a crossfit gym without my shirt on from time to time, even in my early 40s.
I guess that part of me will never retire 🫠
