As children, we were told we could be anything we wanted to be. Some of dreamed of being astronauts, ball players, archaeologists, or strangely enough, even the president 😑
As for me, I just wanted to be a TV “Veatherman” like The Count from Sesame Street 🧛🏻 and my brother wanted to be a forklift (not the operator, but the actual machine). Needless to say, we had vivid imaginations 😅
But then we grew up and we abandoned those childhood dreams. It’s as if they no longer apply to us, and we instead just go through the motions. We get a job, get married, buy a house, have kids, work til we’re old, and then retire and die.
Somewhere along the way, the magic we felt as a child suddenly fades away and we resign ourselves to living a “normal” life.
I can’t tell you how many times someone says to me how cool it would be to sell their things and go travel the world, or to pursue some other dream that burns inside them, but there is a “but” followed by some reason they believe they can’t do it.
Folks, I can tell you with one hundred percent confidence that I am not special.
I just got tired one day of living a traditional life, decided I wanted to explore the world, and then did it.
And you can too.
I don’t care what your dream is. Whether you want to travel the world, write the next great American novel, photograph penguins, or just kick your feet up on a hammock somewhere and leave this tired world behind. It doesn’t matter.
Whatever you want to be, you can be it.
To invent your own life’s meaning is not easy, but it is still allowed. And I know you’ll be happier for the trouble ✨
You don’t need a five year plan. You don’t need someone else’s permission. And you sure as hell don’t need to wait for covid to go away.
Just decide what to be, and go be it.
