For the last six years, I was elected to serve on the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar. During that time, I worked on many initiatives to help improve the legal profession and the world around me. And i am most proud of the work we did to help end the stigma over mental illness.
I had the pleasure of serving alongside some incredible people over the years. We worked hard, made tremendous friendships, and dedicated our time to serving others. And now that time has come to an end.
Last Friday, I said goodbye to my fellow board members and wished them well as my term expired and they continue forward without me. Saying goodbye was bittersweet. I’m satisfied with the work I did over the years. but it’s always hard to close a chapter and say goodbye.
Id like to share with you my final words to them, and some of what i learned along the way:
”In reflecting on my last six years, I’ve come to understand that time is like a river that carries us into encounters with reality that requires us to make decisions. The quality of these decisions will dictate the quality of our lives. And my decision to serve alongside you was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
At times, i was incredibly active and gave everything I had. And at times, I wanted to be there for you, but had nothing to give. And I’ve struggled with that over the years.
But as I step away, I want you to know that there are times in life where you can dedicate time to things you love. And that’s great. And there are times when life gets hard, where it will be tough to fit it all in, and you’ll fall short of your own expectations. And that’s okay too.
The work you do means so very much to so many people. It truly makes a difference. So whatever you can give, it will be good enough.
I’ve been so grateful to serve alongside you and call you my friends. And i will miss you. My time is over, but I enjoyed my time so very much.
Thank you, and good bye” ✌️
